VILLA NECCHI CAMPIGLIO, A BRIEF HISTORY
Built between 1932 and 1935 on behalf of the sisters Nedda and Gigina Necchi and Angelo Campiglio, her husband, Villa Necchi Campiglio was designed by the famous Milanese architect and urban planner Pietro Portaluppi. The first private residence in Milan to have a private swimming pool, it also has a tennis court, another great novelty for the 1930s.
During the Second World War, the villa was requisitioned, becoming the residence - command of the fascist hierarch Alessandro Pavolini, before passing into the hands of the British after the fall of the Republic of Salò. Subsequently, before returning to its legitimate owners, it was also the residence of the consul of the Netherlands. Angelo Campiglio died in 1984, Nedda Necchi in 1993 and Gigina Necchi in 2001 and the two sisters decided to leave the property to FAI.
Restored under the direction of the architect Piero Castellini, Villa Necchi Campiglio was opened to the public in May 2008 and today is one of the most visited sites by the public in Milan.
