25 November
World Day Against Violence Against Women
On 25 November each year, the World Day Against Violence Against Women is celebrated from an idea of the United Nations General Assembly of 17 December 1999.
With this anniversary, the UN has set itself the goal of raising international awareness on this topic by trying to give concrete support to all women and / or girls affected by acts of psychological or physical violence.
World Day Against Violence Against Women: Why November 25?
The date of the celebration was not chosen by chance: on November 25, 1960 the Mirabal sisters were tortured by the Trujillo military. From that moment they became activists of the "June 14 Movement" or an underground political group with the aim of opposing the dictatorship of the regime of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo.
