The history of the Women's Day

In Italy it is celebrated every year since September 1944, when the UDI was founded in Rome, Union of Women in Italy, on the initiative of women belonging to the PCI, the PSI, the Action Party, the Christian Left and the Labor Democracy .

It was the UDI that took the initiative to celebrate, on March 8, 1945, the first day of women in the areas of free Italy, while in London a Woman's Card containing requests for equal rights was passed to the UN. and work. With the end of the war, March 8, 1946 was celebrated throughout Italy and saw the first appearance of its symbol, the mimosa, which blooms in the early days of March.

Since then, the women's party has become a day that, perhaps, has lost its original meaning, even if at this moment it would be necessary to focus on rights and gender equality.
