15 August
Mid-August
Mid-August is a feast of ancient origin - in imperial Rome called Feriae Augusti - modernly celebrated on August 15 in Italy, in the Republic of San Marino and in the Canton Ticino.
The day of August 15th is traditionally dedicated to day trips with lavish packed lunches and, given the seasonal heat, to refreshing baths in sea, river or lake waters. The exodus towards the mountain or hill towns, in search of refreshment, is also widespread.
